Berkhamsted
The Boat is a great pub, right on the canal, and serving superb food (oh my... try the burgers or their roasts!!) and beers.
If you're heading this way on a weekend, especially in the summer, it's worth trying to pre-book a table, especially if there is a few of you as they do get busy. They have quite a lot of seating inside but the outside terrace with views along the canal is where you want to be if the weather is good enough.
